Banyuwangi Regency in East Java Province presents various cultural ritual attractions to welcome the 2025 Idul Fitri holiday. The region at Java Island's eastern edge offers a tourism experience that combines culture, education, and entertainment.

"In addition to various destinations ranging from culinary [to] nature tourism, there are also various interesting tourist attractions ready to be held in Banyuwangi. This can be a family's choice for tourism and education," stated Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani.

Here are four cultural attractions held in Banyuwangi during the Idul Fitri holiday:

  1. Barong Ider Bumi in Kemiren Village, Glagah District
Barong Ider Bumi is a ritual tradition to 'clean' the village and ward off disaster that has been carried out since the 1800s by the Osing people. This ritual is held every 2nd of the month of Syawal in the Hijri calendar. As such, Barong Ider Bumi was held on Apr. 1, 2025 this year. During the event's procession, residents parade the Barong around the village while chanting macapat songs containing prayers which ends with a serving of Pecel Pitik, an Osing cuisine.
  2. Seblang Olehsari in Olehsari Village, Glagah District
Seblang Olehsari is another ritual to ward off disaster that has existed since ancient times. It takes place at the Olehsari Traditional Hall, where a woman is selected to dance in a trance for seven days and nights. For this year, the ritual is being held in April 4-10, 2025.
  3. Boyolangu Culture Festival in Boyolangu Subdistrict, Giri District
The Boyolangu Culture Festival takes place on the seventh to tenth day of Syawal, which this year means Apr. 6-9, 2025. It has various traditional activities, such as Selamatan Kopat featuring ketupat rice cakes and the Puter Kayun horse cart parade. The parade is done in respect for Boyolangu denizens' ancestors who opened the way around Watudodol Beach, with Boyolangu residents retracing their path to the beach.
  4. Banyuwangi Diaspora Festival in Temenggungan Subdistrict, Banyuwangi District
Banyuwangi Diaspora Festival 2025 was held on Apr. 3, 2025 at the Sabha Swagatha Blambangan Hall, the official residence of the regent of Banyuwangi. The event was attended by people from Banyuwangi who have migrated to various regions in Indonesia and abroad, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Russia, Germany, and Australia.
