Fort Vredeburg Museum Prepares Night Tours

Fort Vredeburg Museum Unit Head M. Rosyid Ridlo announced that historical tourist attraction is preparing to offer night tours at the Fort Vredeburg Museum in Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta, is scheduled to open in June 2024.

"We will introduce a new concept [where] we will serve the public nonstop, seven days a week, from Monday to Sunday, and we will extend our hours into the night," he stated during the preparations for the launch of the Indonesia Heritage Agency (IHA) at the Fort Vredeburg Museum on May 16, 2024.

"The operational hours for night tours will be from Monday to Thursday, 8 AM to 8 PM, and from Friday to Sunday, 8 AM to 10 PM," he elaborated.

Currently, the entrance fee to the Fort Vredeburg Museum is set at Rp3,000 per person for general visitors and Rp2,000 per person for students.

"For groups of 20 people, there's a discount of Rp 1,000, so students will only pay Rp 1,000," he explained.

"The ticket prices for night tours will be different, with a clear increase," Rosyid disclosed.

In addition to its buildings' revitalization, the museum will also prepare a variety of programs for visitors.

"Every week, we will have a specific theme so that the public will have a strong desire to visit the museum," he said.

Rosyid added that to support the museum's publicity, they have also prepared selfie spots for visitors.

The Fort Vredeburg Museum in Yogyakarta has been temporarily closed since March 4, 2024 for revitalization, which aims to optimize the museum's functions. The museum is currently under the management of the IHA.

"The transformation of the Fort Vredeburg Museum aims to enhance the visitor experience. We hope this museum will not only be an educational space for history but also a comfortable place for recreation," IHA Acting Head Ahmad Mahendra said.

The Fort Vredeburg Museum is located at a colonial building established in 1760 in Margo Mulyp Road No. 6, near the shopping and tourist area Malioboro.

Since its founding in 1992, this museum of Indonesia's struggle for independence has housed over 7,000 historical artifacts, ranging from household items to war equipment.
