Bondowoso, a regency in East Java famously known as the City of Tapai (traditional fermented starches), boasts extraordinary natural and cultural tourism attractions.

From breathtaking mountain vistas to historic sites rich with stories, Bondowoso offers a variety of captivating tourist destinations. Here are five must-visit attractions in Bondowoso:

1. Wurung Crater

Located in Kalianyar Village, Sempol District; Wurung Crater is a grassland in a landscape shaped like a mountain crater. Also known as the Ring Hill, the site features stunning natural panoramas and cool air. Visitors can stroll through the meadow, capture photos with the mountains in the background, or enjoy a picnic with family.

2. Mount Ijen

For nature and adventure enthusiasts, Mount Ijen is a must-visit. The hike to the summit offers breathtaking views, including the famous Ijen Crater with its 'Eternal Blue Fire' phenomenon. Visitors can also see the turquoise-green Sulfur Lake, known for its distinctive sulfur smell.

3. Kalipait Waterfall

Located near the Ijen Crater hiking post, Kalipait Waterfall provides a unique experience. As the name suggests, the waterfall has a bitter and sour taste due to it being sourced from Ijen Crater Lake. Visitors can enjoy bathing in this distinctive waterfall and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.

4. Mini Niagara Falls

For those seeking a waterfall experience reminiscent of Niagara, Mini Niagara Falls in Kalianyar Village, Ijen District, is an excellent choice. Though not as grand as its North American counterpart, it has its own charm. Visitors can play in the water, take photos with the waterfall as a backdrop, and soak in the serene natural atmosphere.

5. Blawan Waterfall

Standing at about 30 meters tallm Blawan Waterfall receives water from the Banyupait River and seepage from Ijen Crater Lake. The water is greenish-yellow due to high sulfur content.

The waterfall's unique feature is that its flow does not reach the earth's surface directly but instead goes underground and reemerges in the Asembagus District, Situbondo Regency before eventually flowing into the Java Sea. Visitors can enjoy bathing in this unique waterfall and marvel at the distinct natural beauty.
