Total commodity exports through ports in North Kalimantan reached US$ 52.57 million, soaring by 158.07 percent month-to-month from US$ 136.62 million in August 2024 according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) North Kalimantan. BPS North Kalimantan Province Head Mas'ud Rifai stated that the sharp increase in exports was due to the export of non-oil and gas mining goods jumping by 226.36 percent and the export of natural gas surging by 182.56 percent.

"However, industrial output decreased by 12.29 percent and agricultural output also decreased by 36.19 percent," he explained on Nov. 4, 2024.

Mas'ud explained that although exports through ports in North Kalimantan have increased, not all of them are produced in North Kalimantan.

"One of them is coal mining products, which we (North Kalimantan) only exported US$86.96 million, while the total [coal mining products] exports through ports in North Kalimantan were US$ 315.95 million," he revealed.

Exports of products originating from North Kalimantan were down by 11.89 percent mtm from US$133.55 million in August 2024 to US$117.68 in September 2024. "The share of these five countries reached 77.51 percent of North Kalimantan's total exports in September 2024," Mas'ud concluded.
