East Java Encourages Green Industry Certification

The East Java Provincial Government encourages all industrial business actors in East Java to accelerate the growth of green industry to support the formation of a green industry ecosystem in the local area.

Acting East Java Governor Adhy Karyono conveyed thatwhile attending the 2024 East Java Industrial Festival, which has "Green Industry: Key Towards East Java's Green Economy Development" as its theme, at the Mercure Grand Mirama Hotel Surabaya in Surabaya City, East Java on Aug. 22, 2024.

"With the present variety of industries, we must also maintain environmental sustainability. Thus, an industry must have standards to be called a green industry," he said.

Therefore, the East Java Provincial Government works with the Industry Ministry, through the latter's Industrial Standardization and Services Center, to encourage East Java to transition into green industries quicker.

"This is also emphasized by East Java Regional Regulation No. 3/2019 on the East Java Provincial Industrial Development Plan for 2019-2039, where East Java seeks to become a Leading Smart Industrial Province, a goal that has three visions, namely strengthening and consolidating, increasing competitiveness, and increasing inclusiveness," Adhy said .

He added that the green industry in East Java has continued to grow from year-on-year (yoy), with 11 industries that have been certified as green industries in 2023 and an additional 15 industries in 2024. That brings the total number of industries which have enacted green industry standards in East Java to 354 large and medium industries.

"We hope that we could convey to other colleagues in [various] industries to move towards entering the green industry ecosystem," Adhy said .
