East and South Kalimantan Cooperates in Trade and Industry
October 18, 2024The provincial governments of East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the trade, industry, cooperatives, as well as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sectors, which was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties.
"This cooperation is a strategic step to increase the competitiveness and welfare of the people in both provinces. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that business actors in East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan can gain benefits and new opportunities," East Kalimantan Province Trade and Industry Office Head Heni Purwaningsih said in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan on Oct. 17, 2024.
She explained that the scope of this cooperation includes several aspects, including increasing the capacity of human resources in the industry, trade, and cooperative sectors through training, exchanges of experts, and internship programs.
"In addition, the cooperation also includes the facilitation of market access for superior regional products for both the domestic and international markets," Heni added.
Another aspect that is no less important, she noted, is the development of technology and innovation to increase the added value of superior regional products, as well as strengthening cooperative and MSME institutions through mentoring, financing, and promotion.
Heni is optimistic that the synergy between East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan will encourage economic growth and create new jobs in both provinces.
"East Kalimantan has great potential in the energy and natural resources sector, while South Kalimantan excels in the agriculture and plantation sector. This collaboration creates a complementary synergy," he added.
Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Province Industry Office Head Abdul Rahim emphasized the importance of creating a stable business climate to support the development of the industrial sector.
"Local governments must synergize in simplifying licensing, providing incentives, and facilitating investment," he added.
Rahim explained that the collaboration will also strengthen the position of East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan as economic gateways in the Eastern Indonesia Region. With a strategic geographical location, the two provinces have great potential to become centers of economic growth in eastern Indonesia.
"The collaboration between East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan can certainly provide real benefits to the public, including by increasing income and community welfare through business development and job creation," South Kalimantan Government and Regional Autonomy Bureau Cooperation Section Head Syaiful Arifin stated.
