The Bengkulu Provincial Government has proposed three more regional tourism events to be included in the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2025 calendar by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.

"Among those we have proposed are the Besurek Cloth Carnival Festival in Bengkulu City, the Nibung Lake Festival in Mukomuko Regency, and the Octopus Festival in Kaur Regency," Bengkulu Provincial Secretary Isnan Fajri said in Bengkulu on July 17, 2024.

He added that including the regional tourism eventsin the national tourism calendar will certainly add to their value and attract more visitors to participate in festive tourism activities within Bengkulu.

Moreover, Bengkulu Province is not a transit area in Sumatra Island. The province, nicknamed the Land of Rafflesia, is also "isolated" from neighboring provinces by natural conditions, as it is surrounded by Bukit Barisan Mountains' protected forests.

Given these conditions, people visit Bengkulu when there is an event or specific reason to do so. Therefore, national tourism events held in Bengkulu could be more effective in attracting visitors to the birthplace of Indonesia's first lady, Fatmawati Soekarno.

One tourism event in Bengkulu that has been included in the KEN is the Tabut Festival of Bengkulu, which was recently successfully held for 10 days from July 7-16, 2024 to commemorate the Islamic New Year.

The festival, which featured several cultural activities, involved hundreds of small and medium enterprises as well as thousands of other economic actors. The economy of Bengkulu was positively affected by the Tabut Festival.
