BATIC Marks Milestone as SEA’s Largest International Telecom Conference

The Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) 2024 was successfully held on Aug. 27-30, 2024 at the Bali International Convention Center of the Westin Resort in the Nusa Dua area of Badung Regency, Bali.

The annual conference was attended by at least 1,300 participants representing 450 global communities from 40 countries, making BATIC the largest international telecommunications conference in Southeast Asia.

BATIC is the flagship event of Telkom Indonesia subsidiary Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), and it reflects Telkom’s commitment to highlight the telecom industry's role in driving sustainable innovation. This aligns with Telkom's focus on the business-to-business (B2B) segment through Telin, its wholesale and international business arm that has sales representatives at 10 offices in 5 countries.

BATIC 2024 was themed "Cultivating The Sustainable Digital Ecosystem" in line with the latest trend in the global digital telecommunications industry, said Telin CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba. He added that massive growth of the digital telecommunications industry with the adoption artificial intelligence (AI) would consume an enormous amount of energy.

“We have a responsibility to ensuring the availability of sustainable energy for the digital ecosystem. Sustainability energy is an important agenda, as we are committed to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Budi told The Jakarta Post.

The conference kicked off on Tuesday with the opening session titled “Shaping the future of global connectivity”. Exploring how changing market demands and technological developments are transforming the global digital infrastructure, the discussion featured speakers ranging from industry players and telecom experts.

A keynote speech by Telkom president director Ririek Adriansyah on “Enabling Indonesia’s Digital Transformation” highlighted the company’s key initiatives to drive Indonesia’s digital transformation.

“Telecommunications companies can leverage technological advancements to provide innovative B2B solutions. Technology will drive data consumption growth, creating opportunities for telecommunications companies to offer robust, high-capacity digital infrastructure,” he said.

Ririek said that through Telin, Telkom Group currently had a global network that included 27 Global Subsea cable system spanning 250,140 kilometers, and that it continued to build high-capacity data centers in the regions to meet AI needs through NeutraDC.

“All businesses operated by Telkom Group remain grounded in a commitment to sustainability, aligned with the company’s ESG [environmental, social and governance] program known as EXIST,” said Ririek, referring to the ESG Existence for Sustainability by Telkom Indonesia.

“Furthermore, Telkom Group continues to explore new business opportunities and is open for collaboration with various parties,” he said.

Day two of BATIC 2024 began with the Charity Morning Run themed “Charting a sustainable course”, focusing on how industry players integrate sustainable practices into their business operations.

At a panel discussion on “Industry’s Collaborative Effort to a Sustainable Future”, Telkom vice president sustainability Gunawan Wasisto Ciptaning Andri explained how Telkom Group ran its operations based on sustainability principles across all its businesses.

Nabil Baccouche, group chief carrier and wholesale officer at Emirati telco e& , expressed his appreciation for BATIC. “It’s a fantastic event. Kudos to the Telin and the Telkom team for organizing this event,” he said.

Telin CEO Budi said the annual conference had succeeded in boosting the region’s digital technology ecosystem over the past nine years, and would continue its mission.

“In the coming years, we expect Indonesia to be an epicenter of new ideas on digital technology services and innovation,” he said.
