Batam Indonesia Free Port and Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam) Chairman Muhammad Rudi, represented by the BP Batam Free Trade and Free Port Development Center (KPBPBB) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Head Irfan Syakir Widyasa, was a speaker at the Industry Suppliers Networking Session during the Medical Fair Asia (MFA) 2024 & Medical Manufacturing Asia, held on Sept. 12, 2024, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Organized by the MFA in collaboration with the Economic Development Board of Singapore (EDB), the event carried the themes "Navigating the MedTech and Healthcare Landscape: Regional Insight" and "Driving Growth: Optimizing Supply Chain for the Southeast Asian Healthcare Markets." The organizers believe BP Batam's presence will attract the attention of 1,000 companies from 62 countries, along with more than 14,000 attendees seeking access to cutting-edge medical devices and MedTech systems.

Under the leadership of BP Batam chairman Rudi, the institution successfully pushed the central government in May 2024 to issue regulations on the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ.

“The development of the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ owes much to the leadership of Muhammad Rudi, whose focus has been on providing international-standard health care since he took office in 2019,” said Irfan Syakir in his remarks.

The SEZ, with a total area of 47.17 hectares, will be located in Sekupang covering 23.1 ha for an Integrated Health Tourism area, and Nongsa covering 24.08 ha for tourism.

The Batam International Health Tourism SEZ is expected to attract investments totaling Rp6.91 trillion by 2032 and create up to 105,406 jobs over the next 80 years. It is seen as meeting the requirements with full control of the land, backed by key investors, Apollo Hospitals India and Mayapada Group for the International Hospital.

Irfan expressed the hope that such events could be held regularly, so all participants could stay updated on medical industry advancements and technologies.

“Through events like this, especially for us at BP Batam, we can obtain valuable information about industry developments and medical devices worldwide. Hopefully, these advances can be applied to the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ that we manage,” said Irfan.

On a separate occasion Rudi, responded positively to BP Batam's participation in the event and expressed the hope that the institution, which he has led since 2019, would continue to have a positive impact on the economy and society.

“Our participation in this event has no other purpose than to promote Batam, which today has grown rapidly across various sectors,” explained Rudi.

“We hope Batam’s and Indonesia's strengths, which are on par with other countries, can become an opportunity to attract investment that will positively impact the economy and people’s welfare,” said Batam's top official.

MFA 2024, was officially opened by Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Gan Kim Young, and managing director of operations at Messe Dusseldorf, Marius Berlemann, and was also attended by Indonesia's Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo.
