Bangka Belitung Islands Pivot to Thematic Tourism

Bangka Belitung Islands Province Tourism, Culture, and Youth Sports Office (Disparbudkepora) Acting Head Yuliarsyah emphasized on Jun. 20, 2024, that the Disparbudkepora is actively promoting the development of regional culture-based tourism.

"To create a quality tour package, tourism activities must offer experiential value and high interaction. In Bangka Belitung (Islands) Province, there is a growing emphasis on cultural values and attractions, including culinary traditions, local customs, and cultural heritage," Yuliarsyah stated.

Yuliarsyah further explained that the focusto attract tourists to Bangka Belitung should not solely be on scenic beauty, but also on thematic tourism products.

"Thematic products must be developed, not just sightseeing tourism. They should include educational values and unique experiences that are not available elsewhere. This is what most of our (tourism) operators are focusing on," he explained.

Yuliarsyah also noted that the Bangka Belitung Islands is currently transitioning towards culture-based tourism.

"We are in the process of adapting and transforming our products from mass tourism to specialized tourism. Although visitation rates may not be as high as before, we are focusing on the added value of each visit," he concluded.
