ASDP Indonesia Ferry is accelerating the development of the Bakauheni Harbor City (BHC) area, a new tourism icon in Lampung Province.

ASDP President Director Ira Puspadewi stated that the company is intensifying efforts on the BHC project, which is located near the Bakauheni Ferry Port, as part of its strategy to strengthen its core business.

“As a state-owned enterprise [SOE], ASDP also has a responsibility to drive economic growth in its operational areas,” Ira said.

“We contribute not only by providing transportation access but also by expanding into waterfront property development to support tourism destinations,” she added in a written statement on Jun. 13, 2024.

Ira highlighted that the BHC area is strategically located at the intersection of major corridors between Java and Sumatra, and it is designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN).

“One key project [in the BHC area] is the construction of a 130-meter pedestrian skywalk connecting the Anjungan Agung terminal with Krakatau Park,” Ira explained.

The skywalk construction is 66 percent complete as of Jun. 2, 2024. It is expected to be finished within the month, facilitating easier movement for tourists.

The skywalk will complement facilities in the Siger Park BHC area, including BRI Siger Tower phase 1, BSI Mosque, BTN Siger Hall, Mandiri Siger Market, BNI Creative Hub, parking areas, and an electric power house, all of which are 100 percent complete. In Krakatau Park, facilities that encompass 25 rides, access roads, and parking are also fully completed, with one ride still awaiting operational permits.

ASDP Planning and Development Director Harry Muhammad Adhi Caksono noted that BHC development significantly impacts economic growth and tourism in Lampung Province.

“ASDP aims to be a hub for logistics, passenger crossings, and tourism. With up to 22 million people annually passing through the Merak-Bakauheni route, we are optimistic about advancing the local economy,” he stated.

Harry highlighted that the development has already created 1,000 new jobs for the local community and supports local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the Siger Market. The project also boosts traffic on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road and the Merak-Bakauheni crossing, increases gross regional domestic product, and enhances tax revenues.

Community involvement in Siger Park and Krakatau Park has been positive, with over 53,000 visitors during the 2024 New Year event and more than 15,000 visitors on December 31, 2023.

The development of BHC is divided into three phases, with Phase I being subdivided into two sub-phases. First, Phase IA from 2022 to 2025, which covers 41.9 hectares (ha) and focusing on developing essential functions to support port activities, including theme parks and commercial MSME areas.

Second, Phase IB from 2026 to 2030 which covers 22.8 ha and focuses on hotel development in District 3 and commercial support areas. Third, Phase II covers 64 ha and aims to enhance BHC services as an independent city area. Fourth, Phase III from 2041 to 2061 Covers 31.2 ha and focuses on sustainability as well as development diversification.

The total land area for all three stages of BHC development will reach 160 ha, with an estimated total investment value of Rp4.7 trillion.
