Statistics Indonesia (BPS) West Sulawesi Province released the latest data related to strategic indicators for West Sulawesi's economic growth in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.

"Today, BPS West Sulawesi released strategic indicators related to economic growth, where the West Sulawesi economy in 2024 grew by 4.76 percent cumulatively (c-to-c) compared to 2023," said BPS West Sulawesi Head Tina Wahyufitri when interviewed on Feb. 5, 2025.

In terms of business fields, the highest sources of growth came from the agriculture and the trade sectors.

"The agriculture sector contributed 1.88 points of the total growth of 4.76 percent, while the trade sector contributed 0.59 points ," she explained.

Tina added that the increase in crop and plantation production, in addition to oil palm, was the main driving factor. Plants such as cocoa, coconut, cloves, and patchouli showed significant increases in production that also supported economic growth. However, economic growth is not free from challenges.

"The factor holding back the growth rate is the decline in the production of the CPO (Crude Palm Oil) industry and its derived products," said Tina.

From the expenditure side, the household consumption component is the main driver of economic growth with a contribution of 2.57 points.

"The people's maintained purchasing power keeps household consumption stable [and] became the driving force of the West Sulawesi economy," she said.

In addition, gross fixed investment also plays an important role, contributing 1.14 points to total growth.

"Overall, the economic performance of West Sulawesi shows a positive trend, although we still need to be aware of external factors that can affect economic stability in the future," concluded Tina.
