37th Asmat Pokman Festival Involves 487 Artists

The Asmat Pokman Festival, which was officially opened by the Acting South Papua Province Governor Rudy Sufahriadi, has "Creating Art Grows the Creative Economy" as its theme.
In his speech, Rudy gave his appreciation to the Asmat Regency for being able to hold the festival by presenting hundreds of artists and their extraordinary works.
"The artworks that have been immortalized [since the Asmat Pokman Festival was first held] has entered their 37th year, our next task and obligation is to preserve this Asmat Pokman Festival," he announced.
Meanwhile, Asmat Pokman Festival Committee Chair Innocentius Rettobjaan said that the Asmat Pokman festival being included in the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) list provides a motivation to preserve the cultural wealth of South Papua, as well as motivate the promotion regional tourism and improvement of the local creative economy.
KEN is a leading program of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry that curated a selection of events across in Indonesia into its calendar.
"There were 487 participants in the Asmat Pokman Festival, including 195 carvers, 72 weavers, 150 dancers, and 70 boat rowers," Rudy concluded.
