Lubuk Linggau – A South Sumatra transit city
Located at the intersection of a highway between Palembang and Bengkulu, Lubuk Linggau is a 401.5 square kilometer city with a population of 242,980 people as of 2023. It has often been referred to as a "transit city" due to its strategic location and its role as a connector between the island of Java and various cities to the north of Sumatra island.
Despite this somewhat dry nickname, Lubuk Linggau boasts an abundance of destinations hidden within its borders, rewarding travelers who take the time to explore the area. Its natural attractions are particularly striking due to the city's proximity to the Barisan Mountains range. This location has provided the city with majestic waterfalls like Temam and Ta'li, as well as wet caves such as Batu Naga and Batu Lero. The local Kelingi River is also a popular rafting destination. However, the city's most famous destination has to be the Bukit Sulap Resort, situated on a hill approximately 700 meters above sea level. This elevation provides cooler weather, perfect for relaxation or as a starting point for hikers looking to tackle the hour and a half walk to the peak. The hill itself serves as a local symbol, visible from all sides of Lubuk Linggau.
The city has experienced steady growth, increasing from 3.15 percent in 2021 to 4.51 percent in 2022, and then slightly decreasing to 4.44 percent in 2023. Its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices in 2023 was Rp 8,233.71 billion, representing an increase of Rp 545.87 billion compared to the previous year's Rp 7,687.84 billion. The major contributors to the 2023 GRDP were the wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair industry (contributing Rp 1,908.71 billion or 23.18 percent), the construction industry (at Rp 1,769.93 billion or 21.50 percent), and the real estate industry (at Rp 727.21 billion or 8.83 percent).
