Surabaya – The dynamic economic hub of East Java
Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, is the second-largest city in Indonesia. Strategically located on the northeastern coast of Java Island, the city serves as a pivotal economic and transportation hub in the region. In 2023, Surabaya’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on current prices was Rp 715.29 trillion. This represents a nominal increase of Rp 59.68 trillion compared to Rp 655.62 trillion in 2022. Based on 2010 constant prices, the GRDP also increased from Rp 434.27 trillion in 2022 to Rp 459.03 trillion in 2023, reflecting the city’s economic growth of 5.70 percent. The business sectors contributing significantly to the city’s GRDP in 2023 include Wholesale and Retail Trade at 28.16 percent, the Industrial Sector at 18.93 percent, Accommodation and Food and Beverages at 16.03 percent, and Construction at 9.08 percent.
