Lake Toba Authority Implementation Agency (BPDOT) officials said the inaugural Trail of The Kings (TOTK) Zero Edition running event in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra around Lake Toba was held successfully.

Organized by the BPODT from May 4 to May 5, 2024, the event featured diverse categories which drew 736 runners from 12 nations, including Fun Run 5K and 10K, alongside Trail Run 27K and 50K,

Reflecting on the community's enthusiasm for the event and its positive impact on the Lake Toba area, BPODT President Director Jimmy Bernando Panjaitan affirmed in a statement on May 12, 2024 for the BPODT's commitment to hosting a similar event next year.

"We will hold TOTK again next year, with the hope that it has been licensed under the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB). The TOTK is an environmentally-friendly event involving local communities in 12 villages that were traversed by the running track,” he said.

The UTMB stands as a premier international cross-country running competition, featuring distances of 27K and 50K as well as the 5K and 10K distances intended as fun run categories tailored to entice novice and recreational runners alike.

Panjaitan also highlighted the tangible benefits accrued by local communities through their participation as runners, marshals, food vendors, cleaning staff, and more.

"Their skills increased because they were given roles in this world-class running event, so their communities were empowered," he added.

Meanwhile, TOTK Zero Edition articipant Hendra Lim expressed his delight at being part of the TOTK Zero Edition event.

"The route traveled was very beautiful, the track was neat and challenging. Running while passing through hills, rivers, descending and inclining roads, to waterfalls, I did not feel tired because the scenery was charming," he said.
