The Salo Karajae Festival, which is the biggest river shore event in South Sulawesi Province, will be held earlier for 2024. The festival was previously planned to be held on Sep. 29, 2024.

The event will be centered at the Tonrangeng River Side Platform courtyard in Lumpue Subdistrict, West Bacukiki District, Parepare City on Aug. 24-28, 2024.

"This year, even though the initial schedule was on Sep. 29, 2024, [it was changed] because [it coincided with] the regional election. God willing, this festival will be held on August 24-28, 2024" Parepare City Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office Head Iskandar Nusu announced on July 24, 2024.

He added that this year would make it the fifth time that Parepare City would hold the Salo Karajae Festival, which is also part of Indonesia's Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) schedule of tourism festivals.

Iskandar explained that Salo Karajae Festival 2024 will feature several new activities compared to previous years, such as the 8 km Habibie Fun Run that will have runners circle the area around Salo Karajae.

"For the festival's progress, we are already preparing for the competitive events that will be held [as part of it]," he noted.

Iskandar said the Parepare City Government has also coordinated with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry because the festival is done in collaboration with the Ministry. Both Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno and Acting South Sulawesi Governor Zudan Arif Fakrulloh plans to attend.

"We, through Acting Mayor [Akbar Ali], have sent a letter of attendance to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno and the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi to attend this event," he revealed.

The Salo Karajae Festival is characterized by being based on riverine tourism and local wisdom. This event is held to promote South Sulawesi tourism, especially Parepare City's tourism that has progressed rapidly since the festival was introduced in 2010.
