The blocks on offer include the Pesut Mahakam onshore block in East Kalimantan, with estimated resources of 1.1 trillion cubic feet (ft3) of gas, as well as the Central Andaman exploration blocks, which have estimated resources of 100 million barrels of oil and 500 billion ft3 of gas.

Additionally, the Melati block in Central and Southeast Sulawesi, which features both onshore and offshore fields that consisted of an estimated 4.7 trillion ft3 of gas and 850 million barrels of oil in them, was also included in the auction.

Earlier this year, an official stated that the government plans to offer up to ten new blocks in 2024, potentially including gas blocks in the northern Sumatra region.

In December 2023, the United Arab Emirates' Mubadala announced a significant deep-sea gas discovery through the Layaran-1 well in the South Andaman Block offshore from northern Sumatra.
