Central Sulawesi Collaborates with Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport
July 27, 2024The Central Sulawesi Provincial Government and Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport authorities have agreed to promote the socio-cultural and tourism potential of Central Sulawesi to boost its regional economy.
This agreement was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between Central Sulawesi Governor Rusdy "Cudy" Mastura and Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport Head Rudi Richardo, which was witnessed by the Transportation Ministry Civil Aviation Director-General Maria Kristi Endah Murni at the Ministry's Karsa Building in Jakarta on July 23, 2024.
Rudi, stated that the Palu Airport serves as the main gateway to Central Sulawesi, hence the need to enhance its facilities and services.
"The cooperation also includes various efforts to improve infrastructure and facilities around the airport to ensure comfort," he added.
Rudi said that the established cooperation will positively impact the improvement of air travel connectivity to Palu City, with the airport authorities committed to assisting the local government in promoting its tourism sector.
He also said the mutually beneficial cooperation will help increase the number of passenger and boost the number of tourist visits.
"As an aviation operator, we also play a role in helping the local government enhance the regional economy, so we consider this step appropriate for accelerating economic growth in Central Sulawesi," Rudi said.
Meanwhile, Director-General Maria stated that the Transportation Ministry's Civil Aviation Directorate-General gave its appreciation for the steps taken by Central Sulawesi and Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Palu Airport in accelerating regional development.
"One of the main points of this cooperation is to enhance air travel connectivity, especially now that the Surabaya-Palu flight route has been opened, which certainly helps facilitate people's mobility," she noted.
Meanwhile, Governor Cudy stated that the agreement is one of the efforts to strengthen Central Sulawesi's standing in Indonesian tourism.
As per the region's new slogan, 'the land of a thousand megaliths,' the enhancement of the tourism sector is one of the priority programs to advance uts regional economy.
"It is not just a declaration of intent, but also a strong foundation to achieve our shared vision and mission in developing Central Sulawesi as a premier destination in Indonesia," he said regarding the province's slogan.
The number of domestic tourists' visits to the Central Sulawesi rose from around 1.3 million visits in 2022 to about 5 million visits in 2023 based on Central Sulawesi Province Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Disparekraf) data.
"Last year, the number of international tourist visits also increased to more than 8,000 tourists, compared to only 3,280 tourists in 2022," Cudy explained.
