BP Batam implements the Hang Nadim Airport Master Plan
January 25, 2025The Batam Free Trade and Free Port Zone Development Agency (BP Batam), through its Free Trade and Free Port Zone (KPBPB) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Development Center, continues to strive to strengthen the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) ecosystem in the Batam KPBPB by implementing the Hang Nadim Airport Master Plan.
The agency's effort is in line with the Transportation Minister Decree No. 47/2022, which is the legal basis for the strategic airport's development. BP Batam Strategic Policy Division Member Enoh Suharto Pranoto said that the development of the MRO ecosystem in Batam is part of the development focus in the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
The main focus of development in Batam is accelerating investment through regional development and infrastructure development.
"We are committed to supporting the vision of the 2025-2029 RPJMN and the 2025 Government Work Plan (RKP) which has accelerating inclusive and sustainable economic growth as its focus," said Enoh on Jan. 23, 2025.
BP Batam is targeting the development of strategic industries that have high added value, including the aerospace industry. Other strategic sector development priorities include international logistics hubs, light and high-value industries, digital and creative industries, international trade and finance centers, as well as integrated health tourism.
"The potential for the MRO and aerospace industries in Batam continues to improve. The 30 hectares (ha) MRO land in the Batam Aero Technic (BAT) SEZ has shown very good performance. In the future, we will expand it to 108 ha outside the SEZ with Free Trade Zone (FTZ) status," he divulged.
The BAT SEZ is the largest MRO facility in Indonesia, with 23 hangars for aircraft maintenance and two aircraft painting facilities. IT has served 12 airlines with seven international certificates and is targeting to become one of the top five MRO market leaders in the Asia Pacific region.
In terms of human capital development, Batam Polytechnic is ready to contribut by preparing a workforce that has the skills needed by the MRO and SEZ industries in Batam City and the Riau Islands Province.
