Shell GMP to Start Operation in 2025
WINDONESIA July 5, 2024
Shell Indonesia projects that its first grease manufacturing plant (GMP) in Indonesia will be operating by 2025.
Shell Indonesia Director Andri Pratiwa explained that the plant will complement Shell’s lubricant oil blending plant (LOBP) in Marunda District, Bekasi Regency, West Java Province.
This GMP plant is targeted to fully meet the domestic demand for grease products. The new Shell plant in Indonesia will have a production capacity of up to 12 million liters of grease per year.
So far, the grease sold by Shell has been imported. The presence of the new GMP is expected to facilitate Shell in supplying grease to various industrial sectors.
"Once this grease plant is up and running, perhaps by next year, God willing, we can be fast, 98 percent of the products we market in Indonesia will already be produced in Indonesia," said Andri to reporters during the Shell Eco-marathon event at the Mandalika circuit on Jul. 5, 2024.
Through this development, Shell in Indonesia aims to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable investment in the country.
"We also committed to increasing our investment here, our footprint here by expanding the grease plant. So now the important thing is that about 98 percent of the products we market in Indonesia are produced here, produced in Indonesia, and produced by Indonesian talents," he added.
For information, this new grease plant will produce grease products under the Shell Gadus brand, which are commonly used in various applications such as bearings and gears.
Additionally, the plant will have the capability to produce high-quality grease products in various packaging types, including drums, pails, and fluid bags, to meet the needs of customers from various industries, including general manufacturing, pulp and paper, steel, smelting, power, fleet, construction, and mining.
